Landscape Design Services in Spartanburg, SC
Custom Outdoor Spaces Designed for Your Property
Most landscapes don’t fail because of bad plants. They fail because nobody planned how the space would actually be used, how water would move across it, or what would still look good after three Spartanburg summers. Distinct Landscape Management handles landscape design and installation from the first walkthrough to the last plant in the ground. You get a plan built around your property and your budget, and one local team that sees it all the way through.
Landscape Design and Installation, Planned Around Your Property
A good design is more than a nice drawing. It accounts for how you use the space, how water moves, what grows well here, and what it will take to keep it looking good. Every plan we build covers these pieces.
Custom Landscape Planning
We start with a walkthrough and a conversation about how you want the space to look, work, and feel, then build a layout around it.
Plant Selection
Plants chosen for your sun, soil, and upkeep preferences, with native and drought-tolerant options that hold up in the Upstate.
Hardscape Design
Walkways, patios, retaining walls, and stone borders placed to give the landscape structure and make the space easier to use.
Irrigation Planning
Watering zones designed alongside the plantings, so beds and turf get what they need without wasted water.
Sustainable Choices
Fewer thirsty plants, smarter watering, and materials that last, so the landscape costs less to keep up over time.
Full Project Management
From the first sketch to the final walkthrough, one team handles scheduling, materials, and installation.
When Maintenance Alone Isn't Fixing It
Some landscapes just never come together, no matter how often they get mowed, mulched, or watered. The beds look crowded or empty. Water pools in the same spot after every storm. The plants that looked great at the nursery are struggling by July.
That’s usually not a maintenance problem. It’s a design problem. A plan built for your property fixes the cause instead of covering it up every season.
Signs it's time for a new landscape design:
Plants keep dying or struggling in the same areas
Water puddles, washes out mulch, or runs toward the house or building
The yard or grounds look dated next to the rest of the property
Outdoor space you never actually use because it isn’t comfortable
Beds that look overgrown a month after they’re cleaned up
You’re planning to sell, lease, or refresh the property and want better curb appeal

Landscape Design for Homes and Businesses
Residential Landscape Design
Working with a residential landscape designer should feel personal, not like picking a package off a menu. We design around how your family actually uses the yard, whether that’s a front entry that finally looks finished, a backyard you want to spend evenings in, or beds that don’t need constant attention.
Popular residential projects:
- Front yard and entry makeovers
- Backyard living spaces and patios
- Small yard layouts
- Low-maintenance and drought-tolerant beds
- High-end custom projects
Commercial Landscape Design
Commercial landscape design has to do more than look good. It has to handle foot traffic, meet property standards, stay affordable to maintain, and make the right first impression on customers, tenants, and residents.
Popular commercial projects:
- Entrance and signage plantings
- Courtyards and outdoor seating areas for employees or residents
- HOA entrance and common area refreshes
- Bed redesigns that cut long-term maintenance costs
- Upgrades to existing commercial properties, not just new construction
Your vision, brought to life.

Every project starts with a conversation and ends with a space the owner actually wants to use. Here are a few we’ve designed and installed across the Upstate.
Landscape Designers Who Also Build What They Draw
A lot of design problems start with a hand-off. One company draws the plan, another installs it, and a third tries to maintain it. Details get lost, plants get swapped, and the finished space doesn’t look like what you agreed to.
At Distinct Landscape Management, the team that designs your landscape is the same team that installs it. As a landscaper based in Spartanburg, we know which plants hold up to our red clay and summer heat, and we design with that in mind from day one.
Horticulture-Backed Designs
Our team's background is in Landscape and Urban Horticulture, with training at Spartanburg Community College and North Carolina A&T State University. Every plant in your plan is there for a reason.
Design and Install, One Team
No hand-offs between a designer and a separate installer. What you approve on paper is what gets built.
Built for Upstate Conditions
We plan for clay soil, heavy summer storms, and hot, humid stretches, so your landscape looks good in year three, not just week one.
Clear Costs, No Surprises
You'll get a written proposal with costs and a timeline before any work starts. If something changes, we talk to you first.
The Spartanburg Team Behind Your Design
You’re trusting someone with what people see first when they pull up to your home or business. That should be someone who lives here, works here, and cares how the finished space turns out.
Distinct Landscape Management was founded in Spartanburg in 2020. We’ve grown one project at a time by listening first, designing for how people actually use their space, and standing behind the work after the crew packs up.
Rooted in Spartanburg
We design for the neighborhoods and properties we drive past every day. Our reputation here is everything.
A Passion for the Craft
Landscaping isn't just the job for us. It's what our founder has loved doing since he was young, and that shows in the details.
We Listen Before We Draw
Your plan starts with your goals, your budget, and how you live or run your business, not a template.
Here After the Install
Once your project is done, we can keep it healthy with ongoing care, so the design you paid for stays looking the way it should.
Founded on a passion for the craft.
Michael Moore, Jr. started Distinct Landscape Management in the summer of 2020 with one goal: give property owners landscape work that goes beyond what they expect. His interest in landscaping started early and grew into a career, backed by a background in Landscape and Urban Horticulture from Spartanburg Community College and North Carolina A&T State University. That mix of technical training and creative design shapes every project we take on.

Landscape Design Questions Spartanburg Property Owners Ask Most
What's included in your landscape design services?
Every project includes a consultation and site visit, a custom layout, plant selection, hardscape placement, and any irrigation changes the design needs. We also handle the full installation, so you have one point of contact from the first idea to the finished space.
How much does landscape design cost?
It depends on the size of the area, the plants and materials you choose, and how much hardscaping is involved. A front bed refresh and a full backyard with a patio are very different projects. After a walkthrough, we give you a written proposal with costs laid out before any work starts.
Do you redesign existing landscapes, or only new construction?
Both. Many of our projects are redesigns of existing yards and commercial properties that never quite came together. We can work with what’s already there or start fresh.
Do you offer commercial landscape design?
Yes. We design entrances, courtyards, common areas, and bed layouts for businesses, HOAs, and multifamily properties across the Upstate, with a focus on curb appeal and keeping long-term maintenance costs down.
What is landscape and hardscape design?
Landscape design covers the living parts of your space, like plants, turf, and beds. Hardscape design covers the built parts, like walkways, patios, retaining walls, and stone borders. We plan both together so the finished space feels like one cohesive design.
How do you choose plants for a project?
We look at your sun exposure, soil, drainage, and how much upkeep you want to take on. For commercial sites we lean toward durable, low-maintenance plants. For homes we balance looks with what you’re willing to care for. Native and drought-tolerant options are part of most plans.
How long does a landscape design project take?
A smaller bed or entry project may take a few days to install. Larger projects with hardscapes or grading can take several weeks. You’ll get a clear timeline with your proposal.
Can you maintain the landscape after it's installed?
Yes. Many clients keep us on for ongoing care after the install, so the plants establish properly and the design keeps looking the way it did on day one. Commercial clients can learn more about our commercial grounds maintenance.
